Psychology of color in graphic design

Color serves to provide a certain vibration in a design. Once the great strength of color, so that it can provide a psychological effect on all who see it. In fact in the medical therapy, specific colors are used to help patients heal faster, exciting right?

This time we will discuss about the psychology of color in graphic design (examples I provide website design will be shaped by chance I was wrestling in this area) but it does not mean the effect will vary with print or other media, the effect will essentially remain the same.



RED
Red is the color of both strong and warm. Usually used for psychological effect 'hot', 'bold', 'angry' and 'shout'. Several studies also identify a sexy red as the color.

In the design, we can use red as an accent because it is strong. For example, black and white photos on the red accents give it a little alone can make the image a different look.



GREEN
Green is the color of calm because usually associate with the environment and nature. In the design, we can use green color to give a fresh impression. And we can easily give the feel of down to earth with a combination of green and dark brown.

If the red color on top of the URLs as music can rock with the beat of loud and fast, then the color green may be the URLs as classical music (or music meditation). So be careful combining red and green, because it will be a bit problematic. Or just add the yolk to become music Reggae.


 BLUE
 Blue is the favorite color of the men and includes a color that 'cool'. If the world of design, blue is often called "corporate color" because almost all companies use the color blue as its main color. Not surprising really, because blue is the color that includes quiet and reclusive nature.

Another effect is the blue color is often considered as a sad color (blue sky at night?). Blue can also be used to reduce appetite, because it connotes with poison. So use the blue box to design a diet drug.


YELLOW
Yellow is the color of a cheerful, fun and in my opinion a little 'jump around'. No wonder the yellow color is identical to children's toys. Yellow is also usually used to get attention from people who see our designs.

Because this is so intense yellow color, often in use to get people's attention. Remember that traffic signs give warning? All of the dominance of yellow or red (which is still one lineage).

PURPLE
Purple is the color that gives the impression of spirituality, wealth and wisdom. I design clothes so remember witch / shaman / like in medieval times, mostly in the dominance of the color purple. Purple color is also unique because very rarely do we see in nature.

By using the color purple we can give a unique impression on our design, we use the dominant or only as an accent only. The disadvantage is very difficult in the mix with other colors, we need extra thinking coupled with a color that matches the color purple.

BROWN
Brown is the color of earth, giving the impression of a warm, comfortable and safe. But in addition, chocolate also gives the impression of 'sophisticated' as close to the color gold. Can imagine the impression of 'expensive' design with a combination of black and brown color.

And do not forget, chocolate can also give nuance 'can count' and 'strong'. I imagine the brown color can be used in law firms as the main color of their firms.

ORANGE 
 Orange is the result of fusion of red and yellow, so the effect that produced still remains the same, namely 'strong' and 'warm'. This color is often used on the website are important, such as 'buy now', 'register now' and other similar term is a 'call to action'button.

From the psychological side of the orange actually gives the impression of discomfort, and a bit rowdy. Maybe that's because of this color most widely in use to attract people's attention.

PINK 
Pink is a feminine color, if you use this color would you deal with something that is womanhood. Effect of romantic love also could arise from this pink color, is a bit different from the red color that better reflect the 'passion of brave'.

But there are many designers who dare to use the color pink this blatantly. For example, by a combination of black and pink can be seen a unique design.

WHITE
Is a pure white color, no mixture of any kind. So often is considered as the color pure and clean effect. When we want to make a simple and minimalist design, using the color white is a step in the right (though not the only way.)

BLACK 
 Black is the color of a dark, gloomy, eerie but elegant. I feel that if any elements in place on a black background is rather nice (for example, when displaying an image, or product portfolio). But not always effective in the case of typography.

CONCLUSION 
The right color combinations can give character and vibration in a design. Color also can be used to gain the attention of people who see our designs and ultimately understand the messages we convey through visual language.
